UW-Madison, August 2001-present
University Relations Web Design Specialist. Primary responsibilities include conceptualizing and implementing website design solutions for a wide variety of academic and administrative projects, such as the UW-Madison home page, Annual Report, and Arts on Campus. Also involved with the campus-wide implementation of the new identity on the web, promoting unique university experiences like the Freedom Ride, and the weekly online production and email distribution of the University Newspaper for faculty and staff, Wisconsin Week.

Created and established a part-time freelance company, with clients such as:

  • Madison Sourdough
    Updating and creation of additional pages for a frames-based existing site designed by Alpha Advertising. Ongoing maintenance.

  • Capitol Skating School
    Design of logo and website for a Middleton ice skating school, specializing in power, figure and hockey skating lessons. Ongoing maintenance.

  • Geri Gerold Photography. Inc.
    Redesigned website in March 2001 and created templates to allow Geri to add pages to the site in the future. Currently providing additional maintenance and updating as of Spring 2003.

  • Standard Imaging
    Redesign of the existing website. Located in Middleton, Standard Imaging manufactures biotech instruments which take calibration and quality assurance measurements. Launched in November 2001.

  • Comprehensive Computer Consulting (CCC)
    Redesigned the existing website and created an intranet for CCC employees containing handbook and benefit information. Live in July 2001.

  • EDA Planet
    Designed a Dreamweaver template for an e-learning site which features classes taught online for electronic design engineers worldwide. July/August 2001.

  • University of Wisconsin-Extension
    Developed new site design for the existing IDEAS portal website which provides Wisconsin educators access to high-quality, teacher-reviewed web-based resources for curricula, content, lesson plans and professional development. Coding and implementation were done in-house. June 2001.

  • Dane County ReStore
    Voluntarily designing and coding a site for the Habitat Restore in Madison, to open this fall. Restores provide an alternative to junk yards for surplus and used building materials. Some donated materials will be used to build Habitat houses, and the rest is sold to the public at a discount price. Launched in August 2001.

  • Firefly Coffee House
    Creation of company logo for coffee house which opened in July 2001.
  • LifeSketch
    Design and production of 4-color print materials for sales kick-off in April 2001.

  • Nicholas Bisenius, Ph.D. and Michele Norris, M.S.W.
    Designed and produced the prototype of a board game for pediatric patients dealing with grief. 1996.

  • University of Wisconsin Hoofer Sailing and SCUBA Clubs
    Designed and applied logos to T-shirts, hats, websites and literature. 1992-1999.

FoodUSA.com, December 1999-January 2001
Webmaster for a start-up company which briefly became the leading B2B net market maker for the food industry. In the seven months following launch, transactions exceeded 33 million dollars. Primary responsibilities involved working closely with software engineers to develop and maintain the content, design, flow and navigation of the exchange. Consistently praised for clean design and ease of navigation. Also provided graphic design as needed and worked closely with the marketing department to establish and maintain a consistent corporate image.

Full Compass Systems, June-December 1999
Webmaster for a company providing individuals and industries worldwide with products and services to fulfill their audio, video and lighting requirements. Responsibilities include the design, navigation, programming and maintenance of multiple corporate websites and corporate intranet, design and production of promotional print material, and network administration and employee training. www.fullcompass.com*

Credit Union Executives Society (CUES), December 1998-June 1999
In-house graphic designer for an international organization created to advance the professional development of credit union CEOs, senior management and directors. Responsibilities include the design, layout and and production of CUES' educational and promotional materials such as conference program books, manual covers, brochures, monthly Credit Union Management magazine and CUES Membership Directory, and assisting in the design and organization of the corporate web site. www.cues.org

Wisconsin Physicians Service Insurance Company, March 1996-July 1998
In-house design specialist. Responsible for enhancing corporate image and facilitating corporate communications by designing and producing collateral sales materials, provider directories, newsletters, direct mail campaigns and advertisements for all WPS lines of business, including subsidiaries, corporate partnerships and the corporate web site. www.wpsic.com

ImageCrafters, 1994-1995
In charge of desktop publishing and graphic design for a small printing company. Typical projects included creating corporate identification, forms and newsletters and preparing them for press.

Education

University of Wisconsin-Madison, 1990-1994. Received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Art with a concentration in Graphic Design. Cumulative GPA of 3.78.

Technology

Proficient in Dreamweaver MX, Photoshop, Illustrator, OS X and xHTML. Accustomed to designing for all major browsers and platforms version 4 and above. Knowledgeable of and compliant with Federal Rehabilitation Act's Section 508 standards when appropriate.

  • Member of University of Wisconsin Hoofer SCUBA Club, 1995-2003, served as Council Representative, Secretary and PR Rep.
