Thanks to everyone who helped spread the word for the last open house… there was a lot of interest and traffic, so we hope to keep the momentum going. The next one will be Sunday, 9/14, from 2:00 to 4:00.

House. Open.
Thursday, August 7th, 2008Open house this Sunday, 8/10, 1:00 to 4:00, at the condo. Super tall Dave Enge, whose wife’s job I took over at ImageCrafters when they had their first child, will be hosting. Further evidence that Madison is in fact the smallest mid-size city ever.
Gardening resources
Wednesday, August 6th, 2008If you follow my Flickr account at all, you’ve noticed a surplus of plant photos as I attempt to figure out what species we have growing in our new backyard, and how to care for them. Big thanks to my master gardener crew, Mom and Sue, and Kurt, my botanical stalker, who have respectively helped me weed, shop for, and identify over a hundred plants. In an attempt to bug them less, I also found several sites that were helpful and informative, so I’ve listed them below. Additional site recommendations or book titles welcome!
Johnny’s Selected Seeds A seed company with tons of information on herbs, flowers and veggies. A handy seed calculator as well.
Wildflower information This site lets you find flowers by color, type, region, zone, height, habitat… the list goes on. Not super extensive, but if your flower is here, it will be easy to find.
Organic Gardening I receive this magazine and the articles are timely and practical.
BBC’s Gardeners’ World A broad site with a ton of gardening info and good how-to videos featuring gardeners with sexy British accents. The sexiness tends to stop with the accent though, don’t get too excited.
Wildflower identification This used to be my first stop and then the owner of the site switched hosts and it messed up his database. Let’s hope he/she fixes it soon!
A to Z flower identification If you have the name of a flower and want to know what it looks like, this is a good place to go.
Learn to identify plants by families Something to read through when we’re snowed in this February.
When in doubt, ask. GardenWeb.com has a forum specifically for identification called “Name that plant“. Post a photo and other readers respond, usually (from my experience) promptly and accurately.
