Roombas have intrigued me since college. It’s the cute, low-maintenance pet I’ve always wanted only it doesn’t die — hopefully — and instead of shedding it actually picks up hair. How cool is that? So when the iRobot Roomba Sage with Convenience Pack popped up on Woot for half price I was elated. After the success of my first Woot experience I had no qualms about purchasing, and the Roomba soon arrived — and then sat in my house for a month while I traveled. =\ I am now happy to report though that little Roomba is quite functional, and while not terribly efficient, very thorough. You can basically just set him down and he’ll vacuum for 20-60 minutes and then get himself back to his little charging station. He even comes with a portable laser-beam you can set up so he doesn’t fall down stairs. And he works on hardwood floors, so that will be our next exciting “walk”. The action photos are terribly non-fascinating, but he really is fun to watch, bumping into walls and finding his way around furniture. Now I just need a name for him….

A room zoom zoom and a boom boom
Wednesday, June 28th, 2006Stacy A. Anderson, J.D.
Thursday, June 15th, 2006It’s hard to believe that three years have passed so quickly, but they have, and last week I made my last trip to Cambridge to visit Stace and attend her graduation. From Harvard Law. Magna Cum Laude. Words (at least my words) can not describe how impressive an accomplishment this is and it was truly an honor to attend the ceremony and celebrate the occasion with her friends and family, who came from all over the U.S. Stacy’s parents treated us all to a fabulous dinner in Boston that night and there was much rejoicing.
The next day we drove to Concord to see the historic sites, Walden Pond and Thoreau’s shack (the photo shows a replica) among them. Turns out Thoreau was a very short man.
Game night, shopping, good food, a scary movie and a Duck Tour rounded out the rest of the weekend and it was back to Madison.
Stace will be moving from Boston to Tacoma, WA in early July where she’ll spend the summer studying for the WA bar exam. After that she heads back to Alaska for a year-long clerkship in Anchorage with the Alaska Supreme Court. Then, most likely, she’ll go back to WA to work for Preston Gates, the law firm she interned with last summer. The world awaits….
Groovin… on a Sunday afternoon
Monday, June 12th, 2006Summer Sundays are good. Particularly when Jeanne brings fresh salad from her garden and Gino makes gardenburgers and rhubarb pastry from scratch. Thanks and congrats go out to M&M as well for the tour of their recent purchase down the road… it was good of them to move one of my favorite breweries closer to home.
6.6.6
Tuesday, June 6th, 2006I hate to post two negative entries in a row, particularly when a ton of fun things have been going on, but venting to (potentially) the world is pretty satisfying. The day before 9.11 I was in a hit and run accident which totaled my then Celica. And yesterday, the day before the professed apocalypse, I smashed up the Audi. The specifics of the event really don’t need to be detailed but suffice it to say I’m ok, the Audi is not, no one else was injured and there is very expensive pearl paint on a large cement pole at my bank. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Zeldman (who I happened to spend Friday with) also had a bad day, and says it well: “You beat yourself up for it, blowing the whole thing out of proportion. But it’s a mistake, not a moral failing; … not a descent into hell.” Apropos as that may be for today.
To cap off the day I am receiving a steady supply of spam from none-other than myself. To Julie Olsen, from Julie Olsen. iPowerWeb shockingly claims they have no control over their mail server. Spoofers and iPowerWeb: may the reign of apocalypse fall upon your shoulders.
Now I feel better.
