iPowerWeb sucks

Monday, May 15th, 2006

If you noticed most of the pages of my site have been down for the last FOUR DAYS, you’re not alone. One might expect better service from the Best Host of 2006 (not sure how that’s possible given it’s only May) but it’s been my experience that, sooner or later, most good web hosts begin to suck. As for iPowerWeb, apparently reinstalling Apache is a 4-day process for them.

New host recommendations welcome.

Ode to Madhatter’s

Friday, May 12th, 2006

This weekend marks the last few days that Madhatters, University Square Theatre and Paisans will be open before the whole square is demolished next month. This is sad. Although I haven’t been there in years, my college roommates and I were fairly permanent fixtures at Madhatters… back in the days when owner Ted wouldn’t serve anyone until everyone was dancing on a table or stool, Monday nights meant $2 pitchers and we wore jeans with blazers and thought we looked cool. Paisans is relocating and new theatres are being built, but the plans for Madhatter’s are unknown. JenO sent me a video link today that reminded me of these years… all the birthday celebrations, staff sagas, ridiculous clothes, and great friends I hung out with. But mostly the dance moves that really need to be forgotten.

Almost famous

One of Jack’s crazy unicycle photos was discovered on Flickr, and now he’s on a CD. And then there’s Justin, my cousin who works as a stunt man for Disney and does commercials on the side. He’s the one in the blue hat who takes out the old lady. Hysterical.

Return to the blog

Monday, May 8th, 2006

I told myself not to post anything until I got the sailing photos up online. In the meantime I’ve gone to Cancun, had a few fun evenings out, gone to my first farmers’ market of the season, watched the Brewers destory the Cubs in Chicago, built three raised garden beds, photographed the true beauty of spring (ok, and flowers too) and celebrated another year of life with tacos and beer, complete with seed exchange and a small house fire. And a few hundred other things which I’ll never remember as they have not been digitally preserved. So, with this post I’m returning to blogging, sailing-picture-less as it may be.
