I spend more time in close proximity to this person than almost anyone else. True story.

The company I keep
Friday, October 29th, 2004Chili kegger
Saturday, October 16th, 2004Kudos to Dressler who won the chili contest tonight, proving that his culinary expertise runs deeper than pizza. He managed to spend $170 making it and it was still worth every cent. Well, not really, but it was very good. Also, word to the wise, if someone named Jesse from Madison offers you some of his chili, run away.
The arb loop
Tuesday, October 12th, 2004Ran the arb loop tonight which is a 10k route along Monroe Street and through the arboretum. Beautiful night, nice to be able to finally run again.
Sad.
Sunday, October 10th, 2004I came home last night to find Rodney on his side, barely breathing. Since this is how I found him originally I tried to be optimistic but he did not survive the night. I am devastated. This is why I don’t have pets.
Miracle #2
Thursday, October 7th, 2004I went to my parents’ to look for my old fishbowl for Rodney (who survived the night swimmingly) and wound up hanging out with Dexter, who had gone hunting with my dad last weekend. While scratching his belly I found a huge wood tick which my mom then removed, not without trauma (to us, Dex was fine). Thus Rodney indirectly saved Dexter from Lyme disease and certain death.
The miracle fish tale
Wednesday, October 6th, 2004After spending 3 beautiful autumn days lying on the couch near death I finally began to feel better Wednesday afternoon. Having survived a brief exploration back into society to get my mail, it became obvious that I needed to spend some time outdoors and enjoy the warm day. Bryan picked me up and soon we were walking through Owen Woods. Within 15 minutes we came to a drainage tunnel where I used to play as a kid, and since I was now exhausted from our long 500 yard voyage we sat down to rest. As the sun started to go down it became chilly so we hopped down onto the cement platform below the tunnel and were disturbed to find a dead little fish lying there. Looking around we found at least a dozen dead little fish – Goldfish, Tetras, Barbs, a few Guppies, etc. Somewhat distraught, we were about to leave when Bryan noticed not all the fish were dead. Lying in about a teaspoon of water was a very sad, very cold goldfish, barely breathing. And clearly in need of rescue. So, to make a long story not quite as long, I now have a goldfish. We named him Rodney Jésus Keller. Presently he seems to have survived the ordeal quite well although I think he’s blind. And only swims backwards. And has some buoyancy issues. Pretty amazing though when you consider Rodney most likely came through the drain the last time it rained, which was 5 days ago.
Blah.
Monday, October 4th, 2004Sick as a dog.
Gallery night
Saturday, October 2nd, 2004Friday night was Gallery Night in Madison so we visited several studios, wandered around the new Overture Center which is HUGE and saw a lot of interesting art. But we found the coolest piece of art while we were parking… it’s not everyday you come across a 7-foot Velociraptor in the back of a pickup truck.
Al to the rescue
Friday, October 1st, 2004I drove my car to work today, life is good again.
October 2004 update
Friday, October 1st, 2004Summer has come to an end here in Madison and not once did we hit 90°. As someone who thrives in 90°+ heat and worships humidity, I find this completely unacceptable. Luckily, September proved to be far more summer-like than June thru August, so everyone in Madison is attempting to get out and enjoy the summer weather before the deep freeze hits.
So, not surprisingly, the highlights of September for me included some much-needed time outdoors running, wakeboarding and sailing. And a fantastic trip to San Francisco. The downsides included the death of my camera which is why the site has been a little short on photos lately and myriad transportation woes which you can read about in last month’s news.
