Subway photos revisited

Thursday, September 25th, 2003

On her way out of town, Jenil stopped at a familiar site and recreated a photo we took in May of 1995. And another "subway" photo to add to the collection.

A fleeting glimpse

Guess who’s in town for a whopping 24 hours?

Deb & Mich get married!

Sunday, September 21st, 2003

Beautiful wedding at the Folklore Village in Dodgeville. Perfect weather. Deb looked gorgeous. Michu wore a wreath of daisies. The service was intimate, humorous and quick. The food, as expected, was excellent. Drinks, jokes and cubans were ample. Lots of salsa dancing. Fun guests, fun relatives, fun staff. Amazing sunset. All good.

I need more RAM. And another hard drive.

Inspired by Big Mike, I have begun to work on my Colorado trip video in earnest. After a week of capturing video I now have 60-some clips which use 40+ Gb and I’m only about 2/3 of the way thru my raw footage. Am beginning to think perhaps this project is a bit ambitious for my first film.

2 perfect days outta 3 ain’t bad

The perfect Friday night was followed by the perfect Sunday, (don’t ask about Saturday) which started with more wakeboarding in near-glass conditions. After boating and a much-needed power nap, I met Cindy and we biked over to the capitol to watch the Ironman triathletes, where we became appropriately inspired and vowed (much like last year) to start training for sprint-distance tris next summer. It was one of those warm, still summer nights and it was hard to come back home.

Does life get any better?

The perfect Friday night: wakeboarding on the Rock River with Mj, Tammy and Big Mike just before sunset.

Not-so-happy anniversary

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2003

My surprisingly excellent labor day weekend happiness came to an abrupt end this morning while going to work. The first traffic jam gave me time to ponder what kind of treats I should pick up to celebrate my 2-yr anniversary at the UW. The second, unrelated traffic jam was less pleasant because the very impatient man behind me thought that honking would speed things along. When I saw the third traffic jam, I thought I would cleverly circumvent it but soon found myself surrounded by more non-moving vehicles and oblivious undergraduates on scooters, all with a background of construction orange. At this point I decided 2 years of work at the UW was nothing to celebrate and gave up on treats. I finally reached the tower of pestilence and found my new parking spot is next to what will be the biggest construction project on campus this year. There is actually a pipe sticking out of a building near my car that shoots out dirt. As a grand finale, I couldn’t get the tower’s door open – due to the wonderful wind-tunnel feature engineered into the entry way – and once again messed up my recently healed wrist. And so another year at the UW begins….

September 2003 update

August was mainly about two things: wakeboarding and Stace.

My used-to-be healthy obsession with wakeboarding went a bit overboard (ha) this month. We did a marathon boat run one Friday from 8 am – 10 pm on Mendota, took advantage of what could have been the best water ever and NO traffic on Monona last weekend, wakeboarded behind a ‘04 Mastercraft x-star on Waubesa, visited my Aunt and Uncle’s cabin on the Wisconsin River (guess what we did there), went to wakeboard camp up in Fremont, WI, for a day with Deb, Curt and Tammy and made a few trips to Janesville to ride with big Mike on the always-flat Rock River. I was also exposed to Tammy’s new board – a Liquid Force Trip 128 – and the wonders of modern wakeboard design. Anyway, it was all good. Well, except for destroying a prop, my wrist and the fall that was responsible for the lake water behind my eyes and the headache that won’t go away. No pain no gain tho, so it goes.

Equally fun but even more painful was the pre-moving festivities, multiple moves and then final departure of Stace. And then the final final departure one week later. To make the most of Stacy’s few remaining homework-free nights, we tried to cram in as many fun events as possible – a Mallards game, taco night, dinner at La Chardonnay and a few fun nights out at the bars. I thought that all the fun might change her mind about moving but she left anyway. So I’m sad. And my house seems very empty. But I’m excited to visit her in Boston and still incredibly impressed that she sought out and accepted this whole challenge in the first place. HLS is lucky to have her.
