Work was very bad today. My computer has become ill, and I can’t print or access the network. Which makes it difficult to meet deadlines. And I didn’t sleep at all last night due to the mouse incident. Things were looking pretty grim until I received an email from Nuka which pointed out that at this time next week “we’ll have anywhere from 5–8 dives and 2–3 cases under our belts.” Yes, the scuba trip to Honduras looms, and the timing couldn’t be better. Bring on the cerveza.

4 days & counting…
Tuesday, January 21st, 2003Irrational fear of dead animals in full swing
Monday, January 20th, 2003Was putting away Christmas decor today in the unfinished basement area of my house and came across one of the mouse traps Schroeder had placed there last summer. Not so empty. Serious trauma ensued. I need to relocate.
All good
Sunday, January 12th, 2003Excellent weekend, which included left-handed bowling, listening to a very bad but funny ’80s rock band, trips to multiple Great Danes, some quality couch time and nachos… what more does one really need? No vegetables sans cheese tho, still room for improvement.
Also little JackO turns 20 today.
Recipe night
Sunday, January 5th, 2003Got together with Cindy, Chris, Deb, Curt and Stace for another recipe night last night. This time the theme was ‘copy cat’ recipes so we all stole and prepared recipes from the Olive Garden, Chevy’s, Applebees, The Chart House and even the Girl Scouts (thin mint cookies, which came out better than the original). Everything was fantastic, except maybe my spinach salad which somehow managed to condense itself to one-eighth it’s original volume over the course of an hour.
New Year’s Resolutions
Friday, January 3rd, 2003My top 12 New Years resolutions in no particular order (ok, there’s only 7 here, some things are better left unpublished):
- Convert site to CSS. The creation of this site provided a nice tutorial in HTML four years ago but now I’m left with hundreds of non-templated, non-css pages. This page has been slightly updated, more will follow.
- Eat a vegetable every day that’s not touching cheese. This would be a major accomplishment as the only vegetables I eat on a regular basis are tomatoes (in pizza), broccoli ( broccoli cheese soup), stuff in porta salads (with 2 types of cheese) and lettuce from provolone subs.
- Run in three races. Get new personal best time.
- Leave the country at least twice. Barring war or personal tragedy half of this resolution should be accomplished later this month. Yay!
- Redecorate kitchen… making the list for the fourth year in a row.
- Join Madison Sports Car Club. Compete in at least three autocross events.
- Land a 180° on the wakeboard consistently.
January 2003 update
Wednesday, January 1st, 2003Happy New Year! At this point I’m three days in and things are going swimmingly. New Year’s Eve was surprisingly fun – I had planned to skip it entirely after all the Christmas hullabaloo, but found myself out and about having a great time instead with old and new friends.
Then New Year’s Day, still giddy from lack of sleep, my friend Andrew took me driving outside the city in his 2000 Ferrari 550 Maranello – something near 500 horse power – a 5.5 liter with a V-12. As it might be unwise to admit to a felony, I would say theoretically the car might go from 40 to 140 in no time, taking curves and hills at high speeds with incredible traction. Definitely my most amazing car experience yet, causing me to walk around dazed and smiling the last few days.
Inspired, my friend Tony and I went to a Madison Sports Car Club meeting the following day (yesterday) and found out how to get involved in the local autocross events. They’re hosting ten this summer, can’t wait.
So far, so good.
