I’m sailing!

Wednesday, July 31st, 2002

I’m officially on vacation, woohoo! Off to Mystic, CT… back August 12.

Crappy weekend continues

Sunday, July 28th, 2002

Has anyone else reading this noticed that I tend to have really, really good weekends or really, really bad weekends? I think I need to work on distributing the good amongst the bad, or vice versa.

So yesterday while bemoaning my illness and non-attendance at Porkfest, I decided to get out of my stinky house and go into work and download that song from the new Pringles commercial (‘where’s your head at’) onto my iPod to cheer myself up. Only to discover that I have a half dozen urgent emails and phone calls waiting for me so I wind up working from 7-10 Saturday night. As well as a good portion of today. And I couldn’t even find the mp3. Whine, whine, whine, I know. Two more days and I’m off for a much-needed vacation.

I’m sick. Which sucks. I’m supposed to be at Porkfest up near Minocqua wakeboarding, drinking Old Milwaukee and eating chocolate suckers shaped like pig heads, but instead I’m stuck here in my stinky house feeling miserable and whining on the internet to potentially billions of people. Pathetic.

Something has died in my house. We think something might have gotten into and fallen down the dryer hose. Luckily I’m leaving for Porkfest early tomorrow morning.

Moonflowers

Sunday, July 21st, 2002

My moonflowers are blooming. They’re amazing because they bloom at dusk, glow when the moon is full, and then die soon after the bright sun hits them the next morning. Kinda like vampires. And the best part is they have this wonderful sweet chocolate smell to them that permeates the whole yard on warm, humid nights.

Life is good

What a great weekend… I got to spend time with Jessie, Renee (from Chicago), Joel (from Racine), and Carleen & Walter, go to the Art Fair and go boating with my brother Jeff (in from Boulder) on Saturday and then go wakeboarding again on Sunday with Jeff, Matt, Joe and Stace. Plus it was Africa hot, which I love. I need more weekends like this one.

iPowerWeb

Wednesday, July 10th, 2002

I’ve been holding off on this announcement because it seems too good to be true, but it’s been 10 days now and everything is great! Yes, I dumped Jumpline, and have signed on with iPowerWeb for hosting services. Aside from dealing with Network Solutions, which is always a treat, everything went quickly and smoothly and when I contacted them with questions their responses were quick and helpful. AND get this… the numbers speak for themselves:

Plus they have a pretty generous affiliate/referral program so if I’m still happy after a month I’ll sign up for that. If you’re looking for hosting, stay tuned…

Mr. Jones says

Monday, July 8th, 2002

Got myself a cactus from Berne Jones tonight. Mr. Jones is a retiring biochemist for the U.S. Dept of Ag. as well as a prof of agronomy at the UW and has been growing cactus from seed out at his farm near Mount Horeb for the last 25 years or so. He’s selling thousands from his collection because he’s moving to Idaho. This particular cactus spoke to me, was only 12 bucks and came with a long care & feeding lesson. I think Mr. Jones is going to miss his cacti. =\

Only in Wisconsin

The first several hours of the annual SWYDS birthday party and pig roast last night were a roaring success. The last couple hours this morning were questionable for multiple reasons, not the least of which is because no one really recalls the last couple hours. The shot luge may have played some small part in this. Today is going to be all about cleaning up the aftermath… I did the dishes now where’s the phone?

Happy Independence Day!

All holidays should be like this. Plenty of sunshine, boating, friends, fireworks and a fun 5k race to kick everything off. I’ve run four 5k races in my life now (all under different weather/physical/mental conditions) and have finished them all within 34 seconds of each other. So at least I’m consistent, even if it’s consistently slow. =] Stace missed a 3rd place medal by 6 seconds though in the 10k, so at least I have talented friends.
