Good thing they didn’t know him when he was 2
Monday, February 25th, 2002Something you don’t see everyday
Sunday, February 24th, 2002Kev was in town this weekend to see his brother’s band play, so last night we went to the bar below the Tornado Room to be musically entertained by three bands for several hours. We arrived early and one of the only people there other than the band members was one of my best friends from grade/middle/high school, Kim. Which was great, and lucky for me, because I had someone to talk to while Kev enjoyed watching the cage dancers, yes cage dancers, who came on with the second band. At one point he was actually in the cage with the dancers. Unfortunately I have no pictures. All in all it was a very unusual evening.
You can’t go back… but you can try
Sunday, February 17th, 2002In a slight regression to the college days, my friend Stacy and I partied like rockstars last night. We made it to three different bars on State, even entering Monday’s through the back door which apparently is no longer tolerated. Luckily Gary and Annie sympathized with our inability to wait in long lines now that we’re old, and let us in. After cabbing home at bar time we decided to finish off the night with a late-night quality meal from near-by Taco Johns. Today is going to be considerably less productive.
“The Subway Photos”
Saturday, February 16th, 2002JenO and I have been taking pictures in front of large monuments at rather unflattering angles for several years now, so I’m trying to organize them. Here are a few of them:
1) JenO and the Jolly Green Giant in Blue Earth, MN, 1995
2) JenO and Christ in San Sebastian, Spain, 1998
3) JenO and the space needle in Seattle, WA, 2001
4) JenO and parliament, Victoria, Canada, 2001
5) JenO and Queen Victoria, Canada, 2001
6) JenO and Paul Revere, Boston, MA 2002
Boston-not-so-Common
Tuesday, February 12th, 2002(More excerpts from the travel diary.) The third leg of my tour of Boston had me staying right on the Common with my friend Bill from ASU. Bill has a fantastic condo in the Ritz with great views and has done all the interior decorating himself, which I thought was rather impressive for a sales guy. =] We enjoyed some nice dinners and good conversation and he may have convinced me to buy a DVD player, just so I can have Sting’s latest DVD. Despite some blizzard-like conditions I managed to do some shopping at Filene’s Monday while Bill was at work, and then Tuesday I headed to the airport for a very interesting trip home, which I don’t think I should discuss on the web. Ask me in person…
Somerville, MA
Sunday, February 10th, 2002(Excerpts from my travel diary.) Met up with Kev around noon on 2/8 and went downtown to Charles St. to have lunch and watch all the people walk by who make more money than us. Great food, and of course, always good to see Kev again. After a walk and teaching Kevin to saunter, we met up with JenO and her friend Colin and went out for some excellent Italian food in North End, followed by a trip to Mike’s bakery. Afterwards we went to see the Holocaust Memorial near Feneuil Hall, which is fairly new, and really impressive in a very sad but amazing kind of way.
Saturday consisted of a lot of wandering in downtown Boston… Harvard Square, Boston Common, Newbury St., etc. The weather was beautiful – high 40s and sunny. That night Kev, Ed, JenO, Colin and I headed down to the Barking Crab to celebrate her birthday. Aside from all the eyes and shells and the smell of crab which permeated the place, it was a great time. It was the first time in my life I voluntarily went to a seafood restaurant so that was something, not that I ate any seafood. Baby steps. After dinner we went to a bar in Somerville called the Joshua tree and did a little more celebrating.
Sunday was a pretty low key day, with tasty breakfast burritos and a failed attempt to go to a 1:30 3D Imax. So we did some more wandering instead. Jen left for Portland and Kev and I went back for the movie, Into the Deep, which I realized I had already seen about 2 minutes into it. Still entertaining though, but, much like last time, I would have liked to see some 3D shark attacks. That would have been cool.
In Boston
Friday, February 8th, 2002I am now in Boston, writing on my friend Ed’s computer. Flew in Wednesday night and used the mass transit system to get myself to Alewife where Ed picked me up. I continue to be ridiculously in love with the subway here. It’s so quiet, efficient and cheap! Anyway, all’s well with HolaEd. He’s just bought a great old house, which provided plenty of remodeling talk, and has two cute cats and a really nice girlfriend who’s also named Julie. As far as I can tell, most of Ed’s female friends are named Julie. Anyway, it’s been a great trip so far… plenty of time to relax and catch up. Oh, and I also saw the French film “Amelie” yesterday and it’s excellent. Highly recommend it. Really. Go see it.
It’s all about marketing
Sunday, February 3rd, 2002Just returned from a superbowl gathering. I actually watched the last 15 minutes of the game which is a record for me. The rest of the time I watched the ads and read MacWorld during the game itself. Am pondering the amount of money Brittney made from this little shindig and wondering why she agreed to be in her new movie. From the previews one might guess she’s trying to sabotage her own career.
